Our History

Azure Fields Charter High School was founded from a simple conviction: young people thrive when education nurtures the whole human being. As families across Utah have sought meaningful educational options that balance academic excellence with personal growth, creativity, practical skills, and community connection, we recognized a unique opportunity to bring a Waldorf-inspired high school experience to our state.

For years, many Utah families have embraced educational approaches that honor curiosity, character, craftsmanship, and a deep connection to the natural world. Yet opportunities for students to continue this journey through high school have been limited. Azure Fields was created to fill that need—a public charter high school designed to prepare students not only for college and careers, but also for purposeful and engaged lives.

Our educational philosophy is rooted in the Waldorf-inspired principle of educating the whole human being. We cultivate the development of the head, heart, and hands: fostering intellectual curiosity and critical thinking, nurturing compassion and meaningful relationships, and developing practical skills through real-world experiences and meaningful work.

We believe that education should prepare young people to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing world with confidence, creativity, and integrity. Through a balance of academics, the arts, experiential learning, entrepreneurship, environmental stewardship, and community engagement, Azure Fields empowers students to discover their unique gifts and use them in service of something greater than themselves.

As we begin this journey, we are inspired by the families, educators, and community members who share a vision for an education that develops capable minds, caring hearts, and skillful hands. Together, we are building a school where students are prepared not only to succeed in life, but to help shape a more thoughtful, compassionate, and sustainable future.

2023: The Beginnings

In early 2023, a small group of passionate educators, parents, and community members came together to form the Founding Advisory Committee for Azure Fields Charter High School. United by a shared vision of bringing a Waldorf-inspired high school experience to Utah, the committee began exploring what this future school could become.

Through countless conversations and planning sessions, the committee considered potential locations, school names, facility options, curriculum design, extracurricular opportunities, and the pathway to authorization through the Utah State Charter School Board (USCSB). These early discussions laid the foundation for the school's vision and mission, helping transform a hopeful idea into a tangible possibility.

What began as a dedicated think tank became the catalyst for a larger movement, one driven by the belief that Utah students deserve an educational option that nurtures academic excellence, creativity, practical skills, and character development. The work of the Founding Advisory Committee marked the first important step toward establishing Utah's first Waldorf-inspired public charter high school.

2024: Official Steps

After a year of dreaming, planning, and exploring possibilities, 2024 marked the beginning of Azure Fields' formal journey toward becoming a reality. The first critical step was establishing the organization as a nonprofit and forming a Founding Board of Directors to guide the work ahead.

On May 1, 2024, supporters gathered at the Provo City Library for a Town Hall Meeting, where the Founding Board was organized and the Articles of Incorporation were ratified. Just weeks later, on May 28, Azure Fields was officially recognized as a Utah nonprofit corporation by the Utah Department of Commerce.

Throughout the summer, the Founding Board dedicated countless hours to developing the school's initial charter proposal. Their efforts culminated in an important milestone on August 8, 2024, when the Utah State Charter School Board (USCSB) accepted the proposal and invited Azure Fields to proceed with the full charter application process.

This achievement represented more than administrative progress, it was a significant validation of the vision to create Utah's first Waldorf-inspired public charter high school and a major step toward turning that vision into reality.

2025: Azure Fields Charter High School Is Approved

On January 16, 2025, the Azure Fields Founding Board returned to the Utah State Charter School Board to present its full charter application and formally request authorization to open the school. After months of planning, research, collaboration, and community engagement, the vision that began as a small advisory committee's dream was ready for consideration.

The Utah State Charter School Board approved the application, marking a historic milestone in the journey to establish Azure Fields Charter High School. With authorization granted, Azure Fields officially entered its pre-operational year and began working with state officials to finalize its charter agreement and prepare for opening.

This achievement represented the culmination of years of dedication from families, educators, community supporters, and board members who believed in the need for a Waldorf-inspired public charter high school in Utah. It also marked the beginning of a new chapter as the school turned its focus toward securing facilities, hiring staff, enrolling students, and building the foundation for a thriving school community.

With a projected opening date of Fall 2026, Azure Fields moved from vision to reality, taking its place on the path toward serving future generations of Utah students.

Charter Agreement Signed May, 2025

We signed a Charter Agreement with the Utah State Charter School Board in May of 2025. We have started contracting with service providers and applying for additional grant funding to support our program. As of June 2025 we are working with Round Table funding and OneWest to finalize a location and building designs so that we can start on our building! We are also starting our Marketing Campaign to collect Pre-Enrollment information from interested Families: Come find us at your Local Farmer's Market or City Fair this Fall!

We are humbly grateful for everyone who has contributed to this process of starting the First Waldorf-Inspired High School in Utah. Many have offered ideas, support, and many hours of paperwork and research to bring us to our Pre-Operational phase.
